Odessa was one of the few «jazz» cities of the world where the World Day of Jazz established by UNESCO was celebrated for the first time in 2012.
At that time the event was initiated by the author and the General Producer of the Odessa Jazz Carnival (2001 to 2010) Mikhail Freidlin and the founder and permanent head of pop-jazz department of the Odessa College of Art and Culture named after K. This year the celebration of the World Day of Jazz in Odessa will be marked with bright concert programs on three concert scenes, where musicians of different generations and performing styles will be playing.
24 April: the «Feast of Jazz» will be held by the Club of High Music by Yuri Kuznetsov. The concert will take place in the Big Hall of the Odessa Philharmonic (Bunin, 15). Beginning at 19:00.
26 April: in the Golden Hall of the Museum of Literature (Lanzheronovskaya, 2) in the cycle «The Seasons» the third concert — «Spring» — will be held with the participation of jazz musicians. Author and host is Elena Shevchenko. Beginning at 18:00.
28 April: on the stage of the Odessa Music Theatre Comedy M. Vodyanoy (Panteleimonovskaya, 3) a great concert in 2 parts will be held with the participation of the Odessa Jazz Orchestra conducted by Nikolay Goloshchapov. For the first time an outstanding pianist Sergey Terentyev and a legendary drummer Vladimir Tarasov (Lithuania) will be playing with the big band. Also the singers Yuliya Nelson (Odessa-Kiev), Carola Zerega (Ecuador) and Vyacheslav Shiryaev (trumpet, Odessa) will take part in the program.
The concert will feature examples of contemporary arrangements for a jazz orchestra by Rob McConnell, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Maynard Farguson. Conductors: Nikolay Goloshchapov and Alexey Petukhov. Presenter: Elena Shevchenko.
For the second year, the celebration of the Day of Jazz will be covered on Odessa radio by 102,7 FM «World Harmony» radio in series of Elena Shevchenko’s broadcasts in the author’s program «Jazz Club».
